The second event in the Music Department of Music’s series Music in Court and Culture is titled Viva la Zarzuela!,and will feature scenes from Federico Moreno Torroba’s romantic Luisa Fernanda. First presented at Madrid’s Teatro Calderon in March 1932, the work is referred to as the last of the great Zarzuelas. The musical performance will be complemented by two informative presentations, one on Zarzuela in Spanish history and culture, by Jorge Luis Castillo (Department of Spanish and Portuguese), Leo Cabranes-Grant (Department of Theater and Dance), and a second on dance in Zarzuela, by Ninotchka Bennahum (Department of Theater and Dance).
