A new exhibition in the Library’s Department of Special Collections focuses on Africa, drawing upon research materials in Special Collections by and about Africans over the past 400 years. Included are rare maps from as early as the 17th century, numerous photographs from the latter 19th century, artists’ books, early editions of books by African writers, diaries, documents, manuscripts, music, and travellers’ accounts. A listening kiosk with African music is installed as part of Images of Africa and features the CD Opika Pende, with 100 never-before-reissued 78 RPM recordings from 1909 to the 1960s.
