Lizzy Wilbanks joined UCSB this fall as a new Assistant Professor in the Department of EEMB.  She received her B.A. in Chemistry and Biology from Swarthmore College, where she conducted research in synthetic organic chemistry (and discovered that microbes are better chemists!).  She completed her Ph.D. in Microbiology from UC Davis. Outside the lab, Lizzy spends most of her time with her wife, who is a veterinarian, and their macroscopic zoo (dogs, cats, turtle, snake). When she’s not chasing microbes, Lizzy might be finding another excuse to be outside getting muddy, salty, and tired, like swimming, hiking, or playing roller derby.
