The 27th Annual Reel Loud Film & Arts Festival at UC Santa Barbara celebrates original films, artwork, music, performance, and more from across our community. The festival highlights silent short films with a twist – all music and sound is played live on stage alongside each film! Reel Loud’s format allows filmmakers to push creative boundaries, collaborate with local musicians and performers, and provide the audience with a totally unique viewing experience that is unmatched by any other event.

In addition to a dynamic film festival, Reel Loud hosts an exciting pre-show courtyard reception that features original art exhibits, live music and performances, custom photo booths, food, and more! We feature art in all shapes, sizes, and media, showcasing the immense creativity that exists within our own local community. Reel Loud also hosts a philanthropic raffle and silent auction throughout the night in support of the Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation, a Santa Barbara charity that provides emotional, financial, and educational support to local families who have a child with cancer.

The theme for the 27th Annual Reel Loud Film & Arts Festival is “Watch It Play Back,” an ode to the technology of the past seen through a modern lens. Our vision for this theme was inspired by the aesthetic of home videos that encapsulate our childhoods, and the nostalgia for old-school technology that is extremely prevalent in contemporary popular culture. By mixing the seemingly opposite themes of nostalgia and modernity, our theme challenges artists to utilize familiar visual elements in new and inspired ways.

We hope that you will join us on May 25, 2018 at Campbell Hall to enjoy the creative works of our community!
